Fridge Magnets - Death of Rock n' Roll

Every now and then, a song comes along that really surprises you; takes you out of your comfort zone and introduces you to a style of music you never even imagined you could like. For me, Death of Rock n’ Roll is one of those songs. With its sing-along choruses and catchy-as-syphilis keyboard-led hooks, it’s a perfect nugget of electro-pop.

From the opening chords to the big payoff, the track swaggers along tremendously and just when you think it’s all over, Fridge Magnets break everything down with a huge dirty bassline. Whereas many dance-pop acts fall back on synthesised drums and instruments, Fridge Magnets play everything live and it is this that stands them head and shoulders above the competition.

Frontman Steven Winton is well known around Aberdeen for his excellent solo career, and his work with 'lad-rock' band Kashmir Red. It is this departure in sound from everything that has come before, however, that could send him - and his bandmates - rocketing skyward.

Keep an ear out for this in the clubs this summer.

Death of Rock n’ Roll is out on the 6th of June. Check out the video below.
