After You Me
at Six's success with heavier tracks such as Bite My Tongue and Loverboy,
April 8th sees the Surrey 5-piece release the "quieter and more
introspective" track No One Does It
Better.
The 3rd
single from the album Sinners Never Sleep,
No One Does It Better has a change of
pace compared to You Me at Six’s previous singles. Those who have already listened to
the album, which was released back in October, have heard lighter tracks like No
One Does It Better before. This is, however, definitely different to their usual single
releases.
The track
starts off with clean guitar sounds reminiscent of modern American rock music, and
slowly builds up to a full band track just in time for lead singer Josh to belt
out a chorus that is nothing but a pure pop hook. There's nothing wrong with a
little pop in rock music. In fact, in my opinion, a rock band releasing a
"mainstream" pop song shows courage and faith not only in their
music, but in their fans.
As the song
progresses it reaches a bridge which is, when held against the rest of the
song, pretty epic. This epic ending of songs has, somewhat generically, become
quite a staple for You Me at Six. Luckily the quintet has played their cards
brilliantly with this song, and because of its softer edge, it works perfectly.
The song goes back to a simple guitar and vocals before fading out, leaving the
listener searching for the repeat button.
No One Does It Better will be released on April 8th through Virgin Records. Before
that, however, March 18th sees the band release The
Swarm for Thorpe Park's newest rollercoaster of the same name in an
"industry first".
