Baddies - Tiger Face

Following on from their 2009 debut album, Southend’s Baddies return with enigmatic single Tiger Face. Retaining their trademark spiky rock edge, and adding in an understated electronic element, Baddies’ foray back into the limelight is most definitely a welcome one.

With its whispered beginnings and stabbing opening riff, Tiger Face begins strongly and just keeps on growing. The post-rock sensibilities that shone out on 2009’s Do The Job remain prevalent throughout the track, however the addition of keyboards adds an extra dimension to an already established sound.

This introduction of the synth element by no means represents a drastic change in direction for Baddies - the band are clearly firm believers in the old saying, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ - however it does give their music a slightly fuller sound. It’s clear that in their time away writing they have put a lot of care and effort into fine-tuning their sound.

With a PledgeMusic-funded sophomore album on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time before we hear more from Baddies. Until then, though, Tiger Face will act as a tantalising taste of what’s to come.

Tiger Face is released on the 6th of June via Yo Yo Acapulco. Check out the video below.
