Introducing... Nic Dawson Kelly

Never heard of Nic Dawson Kelly? Well, don’t worry, neither had we until this week. But boy, are we glad he was brought to our attention! Born in Sheffield, and now living in Reading and Brighton, this singer/songwriter specialises in catchy country-folk, which is sure to brighten up your day!

Work on his debut album Old Valentine has just been completed, and with guest starts like Jim Barr (Portishead), Mick Talbot (Style Council, Dexy’s Midnight Runners), Tom Mansi (Donovan) and Marco Nelson (Primal Scream, Young Disciples), it’s bound to be a cracker!

We’ve only heard four tracks so far, but if they’re anything to go by, this album is going to be a must-buy this autumn! Mixing bluesy piano licks with acoustic strumming and soulful harmonica melodies, Nic Dawson Kelly has managed to create a sound not unique, but very personal. Speaking about his music, he claims that, “I try to write, musically, what I see. I suppose it’s as simple as that. The songs on the record are changeable; a snapshot of the last few years.”

Old Valentine, is out on 5th October, and is preceded by single The Musician on 28th September, which you can listen to on the player below, to whet your appetite for the album.
