8track: The Victorian English Gentlemens Club

Picture the scene: you've just stepped out of the Hercules Moments DeLorean and you find yourself in the 90s. MC Hammer pants and Walkmen are all the rage. Deciding to ignore the fashion of the day, you pick up a Walkman and head home to 2012...

Over the past few months, we've been getting in touch with bands, celebrities and more to ask them to create eight-song-long mixtapes for YOU. So crack out your Walkman and enjoy...

Annoyingly, The Victorian English Gentlemens Club have neglected to include an apostrophe in their name. Less annoyingly, they’ve created a rather awesome mixtape for you lovely people. But before we get to that, have we mentioned that the band themselves make a rather awesome racket with their lo-fi experimentally-noisy indie music? After you’ve checked out their mixtape, you should check them out. No really. Do it.

Squeeze - All Fed Up
It has really catchy guitar and good lyrics. Squeeze can be a hit or miss pop band but when they get it right they can make a great pop song.
[LISTEN]

Wire - Marooned
I am a big Wire fan and love them, this song just transports me to a cold place, really minimal pop with no drums! Love it.
[LISTEN]

This Heat - Makeshift Swahili
These noises shouldn't be able to exist, they're astounding and genuinely terrifying.
[LISTEN]

Robert Wyatt - Pigs... (In There)
It's true - it must be dark inside the pigs' houses. This song makes me feel happy.

[LISTEN]

Residents - Constantinople
The three Rs, repeated. It is the perfect song, there doesn't need to be any others.
[LISTEN]

Birthday Party - Happy Birthday
My favourite ever song about a counting dog.
[LISTEN]

White Stripes - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground
The reason I'm in a band.
[LISTEN]

Ewan MacColl - The Bramble Briar
Just a beautiful, hypnotic, intimidatingly brilliant song.
