8track: earthtone9

Let us take you on a magical trip back to the 90s. MC Hammer pants were all the rage and Walkmen were the height of new technology. Keeping this in mind, over the past few months we've been getting in touch with bands around the country and asking them to create a metaphorical mixtape containing, you guessed it, eight tracks!

After an 8 year split, earthtone9 returned to the scene in May 2011 with an EP, festival appearance, and 6-date UK tour. Drummer Simon Hutchby shares with us the songs that have had the most influence on him and his music.

Title: When the Levee Breaks
Artist: Led Zeppelin
Reason: Recorded back in 1971 and you will not get a better sounding drum kit. Fact! Zeppelin's blues-rock full of Eastern promise is timeless!

Title: Behind the Wall of Sleep
Artist: Black Sabbath
Reason: The first time I heard Sabbath my life changed forever. They're responsible for creating everything I love today.

Title: The Prophet's Song
Artist: Queen
Reason: Another hugely influential band. Queen's experimental sound and cutting edge production cannot be ignored.

Title: Head Like a Hole
Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Reason: Classic Nine Inch Nails at their alternative best!

Title: Gardenia
Artist: Kyuss
Reason: Massive de-tuned guitar. Kyuss invented 'stoner'! Man-rock at its finest!

Title: The Pot
Artist: Tool
Reason: Many have tried and all have failed to get anywhere near Tools distinct sound – dynamic, harmonic and full of invention. An amazing, amazing band!

Title: Eternal Life
Artist: Jeff Buckley
Reason: A much better songwriter than swimmer. This is my favourite Buckley song. Not sure he could have topped Grace but it would have been great to see him try!

Title: Wolverine Blues
Artist: Entombed
Reason: Every song's a winner on this album so I picked the title track. Big man riffs, razor-like vocals. Great stuff!
