Draygo's Guilt - Pulse

Pulse is the new single from London based Draygo’s Guilt, available for download as the opening track of their new album Trust Me… from the bands own website.

Pulse itself is a low key stomp of a track, built out of a swirling and repeating fuzzed out bassline, and subtle drumming for the most part. This leaves the vocals standing proud with a distinctive haunting style, which at the same time seems familiar and comforting and a breath of fresh air.

If you are getting used to the hugely layered sounds seemingly popular with bands of late, featuring lots of synths and effects, then Draygo’s Guilt’s classic three piece approach may come as a bit of a surprise, with a simple yet enticing rhythm line and minimal yet brilliantly effective guitar lines.

Though not released until 2010, I should say something of the first full length Draygo’s Guilt album, Trust Me… The album features Pulse as the opening track, expanding on the sound with songs like Footsteps, and moving into both a louder and more ‘rock’ sound with tracks like Gordon, and a slower paced Maybe. Something should also be said for House – a shortened cover of The Animals' House Of The Rising Sun that slots in perfectly with Draygo’s sound and adds a familiar point to the middle of the album.

Pulse is out now.
