Cars on Fire - Dig Your Own Grave

Formed in Bristol in 2006, Cars on Fire have already garnered impressive praise from the likes of Kerrang! and Rock Sound. Following in the footsteps of Zico Chain and Cat the Dog, Dig Your Own Grave is hard rocking and brilliant fun; seven hunks of raw, riff-heavy, metal-infused rock from electric opener Burn the Suits to hard hitting finale Exit Words.

The mini-album thunders through at a tremendous pace, and its 23 minute running time flies by, from the guttural scream at the start of Burn the Suits, to the sing-along chorus of Hall of Skeletons. Throughout the record, melodic choruses appear amidst jagged guitars and chunky riffs, with catchy songs seemingly being the order of the day.

And it is tracks like the stunning Hall of Skeletons that really set this mini-album apart from those of their peers, as hard rock is mixed with tuneful singing and powerful lyrics. Other stand-out tracks include the formidable Sharks, a metaphorical kick to the head with fierce vocals and thrilling riffs; The Antagonist, a tuneful romp through metal-tinged rock;and Modus Operandi, a veritable whirlwind of pulsing drums and crushing guitars.

Forceful and emotive, Dig Your Own Grave has been described as “the aural equivalent of being trampled by a gaggle of stampeding, naked supermodels (punishing but somehow completely thrilling)”. And you know what? It’s pretty much impossible to disagree.

Dig Your Own Grave is out on the 12th of October via Undergroove Records.
