In the middle of a massive UK and European tour
supporting Enter Shikari, Your Demise and Letlive decided to use a rare day off
to visit Aberdeen’s CafĂ© Drummonds to play a range of hardcore from two
different continents.
Supporting these two bands, and first on, were local hardcore
band Grader. On the first date of their own tour, and with local fans down to
support them, Grader tore through a set of songs new and old. Playing mostly
from their current release, 2011,
they also played a new track which, even though largely unheard, managed to get
the crowd moving. The energy they created, with fans shouting back the lyrics
to the band, would have been hard to match if it weren’t for the two bands to
follow.
Next to the stage were L.A.'s Letlive, who had played the
very same venue only weeks before. But as soon as they were ready to go, they
burst into songs from the album Fake
History and got the crowd going all over again. The mix of aggressive
screams and singing works surprisingly well for a hardcore band and singer
Jason Butler kept the level high with mid-set ballad, Muther.
Letlive know how to please a crowd and, even with the
dancefloor open to moshing, guitarist Jeff Sahyoun managed to stage dive on to
the front of the crowd during one of the heavier tracks of the set. Ending the
set on Day 54, Letlive left Aberdeen
eager for more.
By the time an out-of-place sample of popular R'n'B played
over the soundsystem, the whole venue was on the edge of its proverbial seat.
Your Demise took to the stage and fired into songs MMX, Scared of the Light
and Shine On. Interspersed throughout
the St. Albans 5-piece’s set were shouts for stage divers, crowd surfers, and
more people to be moving their feet. Mix this with another chart-music
interlude and Drummonds in Aberdeen had an energy that only 3 bands on top form
could muster.
When fan favourites like Burnt Tongues and Miles Away
were played, Your Demise turned the crowd into a sea of fast moving arms and
feet, and you could see this fan-energy reflected in the performance. When the
last song of the set was announced, a cheer from the crowd could be heard as
Your Demise stormed into The Kids We Used
To Be. Without a doubt the happiest sounding song of the night, it was a
perfect end to 3 sets from some of the finest hardcore bands to be touring at
the moment. As the final chord rang out, another R'n'B song began to play and
Your Demise left the stage.
Grader continue to tour the UK this month while Your
Demise and Letlive are supporting Enter Shikari on their UK tour.
