Edinburgh’s music scene has always somewhat been in the shadows of ‘indie capital’, Glasgow. However Edinburgh’s latest export is closing the gap between Scotland’s two biggest cities. Formed in 2003, We Were Promised Jetpacks have always been hotly tipped. From winning their first battle of the bands at their school, to getting some serious recognition from Zane Lowe, WWPJ’s adventure in the music industry is just beginning. Having gained a devout fan-base over the years, all you have to do is listen to their latest single taken from their debut album to realise that you too should be part of this band’s journey.
“Quiet Little Voices”, starts out with a fairly familiar-sounding intro, common to most bands on the radio. However, WWPJ waste no time getting into the track, and instantly catch you with their chant of “Quiet Little Voices”, somewhat instantly picking up the credibility of this track, and leaving it standing out from those all-too-familiar bands. The track then climbs from strength to strength as we find WWPJ sucking us into their driving guitar and ‘chanting’-based track. When the chorus kicks in, you truly realise how big this track sounds. Filling every space in your room, you become adsorbed in WWPJ. By this point you have really realised what WWPJ are about, and can truly see them following in the footsteps of Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad, hopefully bringing Scottish ‘indie’ bands to the forefront of British Music.
"Quiet Little Voices" is released on 7" vinyl format and digital download on 4th May. See more of WWPJ at www.myspace.com/wewerepromisedjetpacks
