Lilian - Never Be Alone

A few days ago, I found out about something really special that a young girl from Aberdeen is doing. In August 2012, local teenager, Lilian Macdonald had her heart broken when she and her family lost her Grandad to leukaemia. This devastating blow to the family did not end there; in June 2013, Lilian's boyfriend Keiran was also diagnosed with leukaemia. Lilian vowed that she would do something to raise money for the charity that provides a huge amount of support for Lilian, Kieran and all the families affected by leukaemia. Lilian decided to write a song and release it as a single, along with a music video where all proceeds will go to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. She has been involved in music and song writing since the age of 13 and has been posting videos of her singing and songwriting to YouTube since. She was also seen supporting Cody Simpson on his UK tour last year which was the moment she began to realise that singing and song writing is what she does best. Here's what Lilian had to say about her song, Never Be Alone and what it means to her to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

''When Keiran was diagnosed, everyone was completely devastated. Cancer is normally associated with older people, so a 16 year old being diagnosed just seemed cruel. In my song, I tried to stay away from the negatives and focus on how everything will be okay if people stick together through the rough times, and I think people can relate in a lot of different ways.

Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research fund vital research into how leukaemia works, and how to cure it. They are also just somebody to talk to when things get rough, and they provide lots of different support groups for people who want to talk to other people in the same situation.

I recorded the vocals and guitar in my bedroom, and sent it to a family friend in England called Jack Watkins who is an incredible producer living in Blackburn. He produced the whole song in a matter of hours, and sent it back to me that same day. I then recorded and edited the video by myself in my bedroom, and that was it!''

When I found out about Lilian and her story, I watched her music video and was immediately blown away. A simple melody with a simple message to cancer survivors and their families; you'll never be alone. To help raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, please download Lilian's song Never Be Alone, available on iTunes from the 26th May, or pre-order it here
