8track: Lake Street Dive

Picture the scene: you've just stepped out of the Hercules Moments DeLorean and you find yourself in the 90s. MC Hammer pants and Walkmen are all the rage. Deciding to ignore the fashion of the day, you pick up a Walkman and head home to 2012...

Over the past few months, we've been getting in touch with bands, celebrities and more to ask them to create eight-song-long mixtapes for YOU. So crack out your Walkman and enjoy...

Lake Street Dive are a band based in Brooklyn, NY who mix soul, jazz, blues, pop and Motown to create a brilliant sound which is new and fresh, and yet also somewhat familiar. After struggling through the 'new band phase' they have finally achieved the recognition they deserve thanks to the popularity of their unique cover songs and their original tracks. Here's some music that influences them.

Donny Hathaway - Jealous Guy (Live)
The most upsettingly soulful live recording ever. It grooves so hard it hurts our feelings.

The Band - It Makes No Difference
Levon’s voice on this track is so full of pain and desire. It’s amazing. Just ignore the saxophone solo.
