Powerpop boys and girl (singular) Be Like Pablo are from the North East of Scotland. They make great catchy tunes with lots of synths and guitars, and have recently recorded their debut album. They have all chipped in with the songs on this mixtape, which aptly show where their musical influences come from.
Teenage Fanclub - Radio
A highly underrated song from a highly underrated band. Gerry Love's song writing is underpinned by an obvious natural ear for catchy melodies - something that contributes massively to The Fannies being one of our favourite bands.

Weezer - I Just Threw Out the Love of my Dreams
This Pinkerton era Weezer b-side features Rachel Haden (who was later in Matt Sharp's The Rentals) on lead vocals. It's pretty much the perfect synth-pop song in my opinion.

Silver Sun - I'll See You Around
I was drawn to this great song in my youth after hearing it once on TFI Friday but then completely forgot about it until the invention of YouTube years later. On rediscovering this song, I was shocked to see how similar it was to my own music so something about it must have stuck with me.

Martha Reeves & the Vandellas - Heatwave
All mixes should include a Motown song (especially one written by Holland-Dozier-Holland) and this is as good as they come. I quite often listen to this song on repeat.

Rilo Kiley - Science vs. Romance
Jenny Lewis' band have lots of brilliant songs but, to me, it doesn't get much better than this. Even though it's quite laid-back, it's a really engaging song that features a great vocal take, catchy hooks and a clever structure.

Ben Folds Five - Do It Anyway
A fairly new song from the recently reunited Ben Folds Five. With Ben Folds, there is always a strong emphasis on songwriting and this is a great addition to his collection. Also, Robert Sledge is a wonderful bass player and well worth emulating.

Jens Lekman - Black Cab
This song reminds me of walking around listening to it in the snow in Aberdeen.
