This week... CHRISTMAS SONGS
Low - Just Like Christmas
Low have soundtracked
my Christmas for the last few years, they should just be the official band of
Christmas. They nailed it with this slice of shimmering slowcore that isn't
gooey and cheesy but just full of winter cool.

Lucy Rose - Driving
Home For Christmas
Although Lucy Rose had
been playing her interpretation of the Chris Rea classic at shows for a couple
of years, it was her performance in 2011 for Lauren Laverne's Christmas
"MPFREE" giveaway for BBC 6 Music which really gained the interest of
a wider audience. No one can deny that they love a bit of Slade at this time of
year but there's something to be said for a classic cheesy Christmas track
which has been stripped of all the whistles and bells and just communicates the
idea of wanting to be home for the holidays. The other artist's versions of
Christmas classics are also well worth a listen.

The Ghost of Christmas
Present/The Muppets - It Feels Like Christmas
This is the only Christmas
song I can get stuck in my head and really not mind. I'll walk around town
humming the tune and it'll just put me in a jaunty, festive mood. My only
criticism is that it's entirely too short. Plus it's from the best Christmas
movie ever made.

Weezer -
Christmas Celebration
I enjoy cheesy Christmas music as much as the next man, but there comes a time when it gets so overplayed that it's nice to dive into a bit of alternative festive music. Weezer's Christmas Celebration appeared on a special Yuletide 2-track EP, and it has all the hallmarks of a classic early Weezer track.

Michael Buble - It's
Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
This is my current
favourite Christmas song and has been since I first heard it on Christmas
morning of 2011. Pre Christmas 2011, what I have been a fan of is various
realms of orchestral music both with and without a singer in the fore front.
With this particular song, I'm all about the magical feeling you get when the
opening strings kick in with some dreamy brass to round it off. Then, the voice
of Michael Buble joins in; a man of many talents including not only his voice,
but also probably the highest amount of straight men having a 'man crush' on
him. I hadn't heard any music by Buble before this song last year and if you're
in the same situation, I'd like to recommend you have a listen.

Rout - Carol Of The
Bells
The Enter Shikari front man's dubstep side project - Rout - remixed a classic Christmas song to create this absolute banger. Most recently seen reimagined as an Enter Shikari live intro last year, the original remix is still my go-to Christmas song.
