Stanley - Sandwiches & Tea

It’s hard to hear Stanley’s latest offering, Sandwiches & Tea, without imagining that you’re watching a good old-fashioned Western film. The galloping rhythm and vibrato guitars scream of high-speed chases on horseback, while the epic horn section at the end elevates the song to a rousing climax. Listening to Sandwiches & Tea is, then, a cinematic experience. Although, with lyrics like “Darling you’ve been a very naughty girlfriend / You sucked my thing and then you left,”  it’s perhaps more Blazing Saddles than Butch Cassidy!

Stanley guitarist Ramsay Clark said: “Although the track has a lighter feel than our previous single, it’s just as chock full of wit and quirkiness. It’s very much a study in repetition, as it features the same four chords – more or less – repeated right the way through, something a lot of bands try to avoid.

“The support we have received since Monkeys & Friends was released had been nothing short of staggering. With the arrival of Scott [Coutts] on bass, and Steve Amos coming on board as our manager, we feel like a ‘new band’ and are free to concentrate on our debut album which will be unleashed in winter.”

The track, then, is stunning: if you imagined Frank Sinatra crooning over The Tornados’ Telstar, you might be halfway to comprehending Sandwiches & Tea. But for the full, enthralling experience, you really need to listen for yourself.

Sandwiches & Tea is out on the 25th of July via Kittiwake Records.
