Gig Of The Month: Joan Of Arc at the Tunnels 27/06/2011

It’s not often that someone as prolific or influential as Joan Of Arc makes their way to the grey corner of Scotland that is Aberdeen. All four bands on this night are truly awesome, making this our Gig Of The Month.
Playing this gig are:

Seas, Starry

This being their third gig proper, local ambient-noise rockers Seas, Starry are really a sight to behold or rather a soundscape to be heard. Carefully crafting sometimes beautiful, sometimes a little noisy sounds, think the more serene side of Sonic Youth. Self-described as having ‘too many pedals’, I say more!

Min Diesel

Purveyors of fine lo-fi rock, Min Diesel always provide a set full of boundless energy. It’s loud too, which is always a good thing right? Expect to hear songs off their debut EP ‘Din Measles’. They also have another EP in the works for later this year and you might even be treated to some previews from that, you lucky things.

Hot Club De Paris

Liverpool’s finest three craftsmen of math-tinged indie rock Hot Club De Paris could quite easily be headlining this show themselves. They are however out on this tour supporting arguably one of their most influential song writers, Tim Kinsella, of the venerable headliners Joan Of Arc and Cap’n Jazz (amongst others!) Songs loaded with guitar noodling and witty lyrics. Expect songs from first two albums ‘Drop It ‘Til It Pops’ and ‘Live At Dead Lake’. Probably some of the most fun songs ever written, and damn intelligent too.

Joan Of Arc

Joan Of Arc are back for their highly anticipated return to Aberdeen. With a changed line up since last time, and yet another slight change in direction for the band, this year’s show is set to be totally different. With some of the band’s most straight forward (well straight forward in the Joan Of Arc way…) material to date on most recent record ‘Life Like’ [Reviewed here], expect to see four very talented guys doing what they do best. Tim Kinsella is of course an indie rock forefather, with those acquainted with his outputs knowing just how influential he has been in shaping today’s indie rock and yesteryear’s emo. It is Joan Of Arc in Aberdeen, need I say much more??

You can get tickets from HERE or from OneUp Records in Aberdeen.
