Vessels Live - Lemon Tree 22/02/2011

Tonight at The Lemon Tree Edinburgh soloist Debutant was on first, taking to the stage and playing his wonderfully crafted songs, built on guitar loops and lots of reverbed vocals. Debutant put together a brilliantly enjoyable set; creating beautiful ambient noises he set the perfect tone for tonight’s gig.

Next up tonight was Stuart Warwick. His blend of melancholic dark songs fit perfectly in a build up to tonight’s heavier output from Vessels. Stuart played with such precision on the keyboard with his falsetto voice fitting perfectly on top of the beautiful and epic melodies he creates. Moments of his music hark back to bits of Muse (the better parts…).

Taking to the stage Vessels got straight into their set, instantly they were all lost and transfixed in the sound they were creating. They play with such passion, each note so concisely played; it was hard not to get lost in their sounds too.

Throughout the set they never lost this concentration on what they were doing, stopping very occasionally between songs to thank tonight’s appreciative audience. Their songs are very very cleverly put together, so intricate and beautiful in places and heavier in others. They created the perfect blend between loud and quite.
Joining them on stage for Meatman, Piano Tuner, Prostitute was Stuart Warwick. Stuart’s voice perfectly suited Vessel’s music, creating a wonderful song. Vessels continued through the rest of their set, only stopping before their last song for a somewhat long pause.

Keyboardists/guitarist Peter stopped to explain what had happened to their album. Apparently it had been lost in transit and would catch up with them “at some point in their tour”. The explaining of this lasted about five minutes, Peter turned out to be a pretty funny guy.

After this Vessels kicked into their last song, ending in a euphoria of feedback and noise to which each band member exited individually to a wave of applause.

As far as I am aware copies of the album have finally caught up with the band, so you should probably go buy it now…
