Jerry Harmon Live - Aberdeen 02/10/10

Isn’t it great when music is put before sport? Okay, well it doesn’t happen often, but at Aberdeen pub The Tilted Wig, that is exactly what has happened. The Sky Sports is gone and in has come a shiny new PA; some old benches have gone and are replaced by a nice little stage. You get the idea, it’s now a music pub.

Finding someone to be worthy of launching a new music venue is always going to be tough. Grammy nominee Jerry Harmon does, however, fit all the necessary credentials to give the pub the re-launch it deserves. He has that lightning fast speed with lyrics as sharp as a razor that you would come to expect from any bluegrass artist. Few men can take to the stage alone and pull it off, let alone perform for two hours and keep the audience as interested as when they heard the first note.

Jerry’s stories are actually as good as his music: they are amusing ramblings about his journeys and music, and nicely fill the time between songs. It’s probably worth the door price just to hear his stories. Among his own original material, Jerry broke into covers of The Weight, Sweet Home Alabama, and a couple of Cash songs for good measure. Special mention goes to the impromptu cover of Jackson! The girl from the crowd who helped him out on that one did a fantastic job.

This was definitely the re-launch the fantastic people at The Tilted Wig deserved.
