Introducing... Miniature Dinosaurs

Formed in mid-2009, Stirling’s Miniature Dinosaurs have been quickly making a name for themselves on the Scottish music scene. Blending the pop sensibilities of The Killers with the quirkiness of The Starlight Mints and Wheatus, they have already received high praise from king of undiscovered Scottish music, Radio 1’s Vic Galloway, who branded them “dramatic indie pop” and declared the one of his favourites.

After support slots with Twin Atlantic and The Xcerts, Miniature Dinosaurs released their debut EP Chatterbox in March this year to critical acclaim and look set to storm the airwaves once again with new single, Cold Shoulder. Reminiscent of The Killers – but more interesting! – Cold Shoulder is a fun pop song, full of memorable hooks and catchy melodies.

But the track started life as a whole different beast, as lead singer Barry Maclean explains: “A year or two ago, two of [Miniature Dinosaurs] went around Stirling playing skewed cover songs, and one of those was by Britney Spears. We took the bass line from our version of Toxic and turned it into Cold Shoulder.”

“We’ve been slipping it into our live set for a few months now,” continues bassist Alban Dickson, “and it’s going down very well with the crowd. It seemed an obvious choice [for our next single], and we’re very excited to see the reaction from fans, press and radio alike.”

But don’t just take the band’s word for it: use the player below to have a very special exclusive listen to the single itself… it’s not even on the band’s own MySpace yet!

Cold Shoulder is out as a digital download from the 11th of October, and is available in all the usual places.
