Headless Prom Queens - Juliette Get Your Gun

As a child actor she appeared in a film adaptation of Black Beauty, and as a 24-year-old lesbian squatter she shocked TV viewers by flashing a breast on national television. Somewhere in between, however, Keeley Flanders – or Big Brother 11’s Shabby, as you’ll know her – was actually the frontwoman of lo-fi grunge-pop outfit, Headless Prom Queens. And honestly, they’re pretty damn good.

Despite amicably splitting in June 2009, Headless Prom Queens are re-releasing single Juliette Get Your Gun to coincide with Shabby’s appearance in Channel 4’s last ever series of Big Brother. Although they will undoubtedly hear cries of ‘cash-in’ across the nation, Juliette Get Your Gun is, in fact, a rip-roaringly fun assault on the ears: catchy hooks and fuzzy bass lines can be found in abundance in this entirely danceable track. Similarly, B-side Godless Regardless is exciting and cool, with a chant-along chorus amidst an enjoyable, poppy sound.

So there will be the naysayers, and those that turn their noses up at Headless Prom Queens. What’s important to remember, though, is that it isn't the band members that are important; it’s the music. And who are we to decry these great songs?

Juliette Get Your Gun is out now on iTunes
