8track: Cars on Fire

Let us take you on a magical trip back to the 90s. MC Hammer pants were all the rage and Walkmen were the height of new technology. Keeping this in mind, over the past few months we've been getting in touch with bands around the country and asking them to create a metaphorical mixtape containing, you guessed it, eight tracks!

This time around, we asked hard-rocking Cars on Fire vocalist/guitarist Ali Ross to make his perfect eight-song-long compilation, and it's pretty intense to say the least...!

Title: No Son Of Mine
Artist: Every Time I Die
Reason: This song is amazing, it has awesome riffs and enough energy to tear you a new one! Keith Buckley is easily one of the best vocalists around at the moment and his lyrics are great too. This was the first song I heard by them and I fell in love with this band straight away.

Title: Stuck In My Throat
Artist: Reuben
Reason: Reuben should have been one of the biggest bands to come out of the UK (well, they were in my eyes). This song is the first song I heard by them and Jamie Lenman’s vocals are both soulful and aggressive….the vocal cross over is amazing. His lyrics are really good too. The drum pattern on this song is really different; Guy Davies is a drum machine! It’s just a great song throughout with a great melody and punchy riffage!

Title: Left For Dead
Artist: The Ghost Of A Thousand
Reason: This song will just tear your face right off and chuck it to the kerb; it’s just vicious! I love it; it’s got brilliant guitar patterns and great drums however, its Tom Lacey’s voice that really makes it amazing. He sounds so angry that anyone would think someone had just stolen his Curly Wurly, but also tuneful too!

Title: Rough Hands
Artist: Alexisonfire
Reason: I loooooove this song, the guitar melody is so haunting it makes the hair stand up on my neck. Dallas Green’s vocals are just amazing too, and the lyrics are so heartfelt. The vocal cross over between Dallas and Wade is awesome and the chorus in this song just gets me every time, its one of my favourites.

Title: Hail Destroyer
Artist: Cancer Bats
Reason: What’s not to love about this song?! It’s got everything you need: a big fat riff, pounding drums and great vocals….it’s simply a kick ass tune!

Title: Ricochet
Artist: Faith No More
Reason: This is a tune and a half; Mike Patton is such a great vocalist and this song shows off his talent well. The song structure is brilliant and each member of this band is a great musician; this is my favourite song from that particular album. Mike Patton’s lyrics are always really good as is the enthusiasm in his voice; the guitars are nice and textured too.

Title: New Noise
Artist: Refused
Reason: TUNE!! This song has got such a dirty fat guitar riff in it, it’s savage. The vocals are just brilliant; they are kind of scatty and barbaric but brutal and honest sounding. The drums are thumping too; they were such a great band! This is one of my favourite songs to drive to!

Title: The Antagonist
Artist: Cars On Fire
Reason: Well, I had to get one in there somewhere right?! Haha, this is my one of my favourites to play live. It’s a really fun song; it’s got the mental screamy vocals but also the warm chorus vocal. It’s quite diverse as far as guitars go too: it has a few little interesting bits & pieces in there.
