Club Smith - The Loss EP

2010 will see Club Smith play with The Sunshine Underground and Johnny Foreigner, and release two EPs. Looks like it’s going to be a good year then, eh?

The Loss EP is the first of two planned extended players (the second appearing sometime during the summer months) and contains four dark and brooding anthems. With a sound not dissimilar to a thickened out Dykeenies, Club Smith have crafted some great synthy indie-pop tracks.

Lament is a powerful opener with rumbling drums and slickly layered vocals, while Courtyard features a more prevalent guitar, revelling in its electro-indie tendencies with a synthesizer solo and raucous midsection.

What follows is Connected, probably the best track of the four. Beginning quietly, the song soon builds to a climactic sing-along midpoint and features an epic breakdown before building right back up to its full glory. Closer No Friend of Mine is Kasabian-meets-disco-meets-atmosphere; a spectacular romp through the rockier side of Club Smith’s repertoire.

All in all, The Loss EP acts as a brilliant introduction to Club Smith’s music. It showcases the band’s talent for writing catchy pop songs, leaving the listener eagerly anticipating their summer EP.

The Loss EP is out on the 8th of March via All Sorted Records.
