He Slept on 57 - Turn Your Back On All We Know

Opening with Your Faint Memory, He Slept on 57’s debut EP begins quietly before exploding into a powerful indie extravaganza. Catchy riffs, violins and sharp vocals are blended to create a prime example of the proper way to ‘do indie’. Next up is Watching the World, a punchy punk anthem with a sing-along “woah-oh” and a killer bass breakdown. Finally, Drink Your Sorrow is perhaps the best song on the CD: twinkly glockenspiel accompanies a hard-hitting guitar line; the illegitimate lovechild of Twin Atlantic and The Xcerts.

Whilst not packing the same punch as their live show, Turn Your Back On All We Know is an engaging listen, and an impressive debut offering. He Slept on 57 have managed in three tracks to capture their hard rocking moments and have interspersed them with quieter, more indie-centric melodies. Having already been championed by radio DJ Steve Lamacq, and with a strong EP under their belts, He Slept on 57 are set for great things in the Scottish indie scene.

Turn Your Back On All We Know is out now, and is available to buy from the band’s MySpace.
