When celebrated
Scottish folk musician Alasdair Roberts played Aberdeen last month, local
singer-songwriter CS Buchan celebrated his support slot with a brand new three
track EP. And now The Towers is
available as a free download.
The Towers is a delicately balanced EP: guitars, harmonium, piano and subtle
harmonies combine with Aberdeen-centric lyrics to create a deliciously folky
vibe. Opener Wasting Time is imbued
with an indie sensibility as well as the expected traditional influences, and
lilts along wonderfully. Then comes Harlaw,
a tender mid-EP ballad, before closing track You Said I Owe You/Oh Aberdeen. From its twinkly beginnings to its
electrified final moments, this is a killer track that ends the EP in style:
fuelled with passion and filled with heart.
Mixing modern and
traditional influences throughout, The
Towers is a strong EP from CS Buchan, and the raw lo-fi recording style
really lends itself to the songs, adding to the emotion of each one. From this
EP, it’s easy to see why CS Buchan is really making a name for himself.
The
Towers by CS Buchan is available to download for free
from Soundcloud.
