It’s not unusual for Scottish singers to tackle the
nation’s best loved poet, but Rachel Sermanni’s stripped back version of Ae Fond Kiss rises above most others.
Eschewing the luxurious, swelling full-band sounds of her recent album Under Mountains, Rachel instead brings
the song back to basics. A gently finger-picked guitar is all that’s required
to accompany her delicate vocals in this emotive rendition of the famous Robert
Burns classic.
All profits from the single, which is released on Robert
Burns’ birthday, will be donated to musical charity Nordoff-Robbins Music
Therapy in Scotland. Chairman of the NRMTS Fundraising Committee Donald MacLeod
said: “Not only is this a wonderful way to celebrate our Baird’s birthday, it
will also raise vital funds for our charity which provides music therapy to
children and adults across Scotland. Also, every penny raised in Scotland,
stays in Scotland.”
Ae Fond Kiss by
Rachel Sermanni is out on the 25th of January via Middle of Nowhere
Recordings.
