8track: Jim Gellatly

Picture the scene: you've just stepped out of the Hercules Moments DeLorean and you find yourself in the 90s. MC Hammer pants and Walkmen are all the rage. Deciding to ignore the fashion of the day, you pick up a Walkman and head home to 2012...

Over the past few months, we've been getting in touch with bands, celebrities and more to ask them to create eight-song-long mixtapes for YOU. So crack out your Walkman and enjoy...

Jim Gellatly is the presenter of radio show In:Demand Uncut on various stations across Scotland, has a weekly slot on internet radio station Amazing Radio, has his own weekly podcast available on Tuesdays for free via iTunes, and writes the New Music column in the Scottish Sun. He is responsible for uncovering a lot of great bands over the years, and has been awarded with the 'John Peel Award for contribution to Music Radio'. You've probably heard of him. Here are some of his favourite songs.

The Lorelei - Wendy Frenzy
I could have selected a whole bunch of tracks from North-east mid-90s bands, but The Lorelei were always a favourite. I remember taking a handful of their CDs to Glastonbury and sheepishly (how appropriate!) passing one on to John Peel.

Time Zone Featuring John Lydon & Afrika Bambaataa - World Destruction
Still one of my all time favourites. From 1984 I used to check the charts each week to see if it had risen or fallen. Just love the Rotton snarl fighting it out with Bambaataa's booming rap.

Sir Jimmy Shand - Bluebell Polka
Proper music. Guilty pleasure.

Chvrches - The Mother We Share
I was privileged to attend their first ever official show. Amazing band.

This Poison! - Engine Failure
From Perth. Saw them support The Wedding Present in a pub in Dundee around '87, and Engine Failure came out on The Wedding Present's Reception label. Brilliant slice of jaggy indie rock.

Bwani Junction - Two Bridges
Great wee band. This is such an anthem!

We Free Kings - Death Of The Wild Colonial Boy
Big fan of these guys in the mid-80s. Edinburgh folk punk.

Anti-Nowhere League - Streets of London
Cracking version of the Ralph McTell number. Pretty much wore out their album We Are The League when I was at school. I was like a starstruck fan when I first met singer Animal a few years ago, and last year went to see them again in Bathgate.
