As with all of the Twilight Sad’s music, the a-side to this single is atmospheric and melodic, sticking in your mind for hours after listening: once again the band have proven themselves the masters of the catchy chorus. Although the track has been cut down for a radio edit, it doesn’t lose the impact of the full album version, and still retains the essence of the Twilight Sad.
The b-side, In The Blackout, is equally a stunning piece of musical artwork. Tuneful yet melancholic, mournful yet somehow upbeat, the Twilight Sad never fail to amaze when they seamlessly blend a mixture of emotions into one piece of music. The track breaks down midway; vocalist James Graham’s emotional lyrics are heard with just a solo guitar, before building back up to a massive finish.
The band branded “the Four Scotsmen of the Apocalypse” by the NME are back, and this single is an indication that Forget The Night Ahead, the Twilight Sad’s forthcoming second album, will be just as twistedly beautiful as their first, if not more. And who would complain about that?
I Became A Prostitute is released on the 3rd of August via Fat Cat Records.
