Dananananaykroyd - Black Wax (Single)
Dananananaykroyd have already claimed the title of “Best Live Band in the Universe”. (Yes, it’s almost official!) So how does their studio work measure up to their critically-acclaimed live performances?
Unfortunately it is impossible to add a wall of hugs to a CD, but what they can do is lay down some of the catchiest hooks throughout their music. A-side “Black Wax” has evidently spent more time in the production process than their wonderfully under-produced debut EP, “Sissy Hits”. This is by no means a bad thing , however, and there is an obvious progression here from Dana; one which has made them perhaps more accessible to the average Radio 1 listener than “Sissy Hits” did, but still retains their unpredictability by taking their more melodic moments and destroying them by the end of the song.
B-side “No Wage” is a real cracker too, really proving that Dana are more than just a singles band, and have a real depth to every song they write.
You can tell from every song that Dana have a real passion for the music they write. It really shows in the reputation they have as a live band who give their all at every performance, and involve the audience in ways most bands could never even dream of. If “Hey Everone” lives up to the promise of “Black Wax”, and first single “Pink Sabbath”, then Dananananaykroyd are set to be huge this year.
