8track: Turnpike Glow

Picture the scene: you've just stepped out of the Hercules Moments DeLorean and you find yourself in the 90s. MC Hammer pants and Walkmen are all the rage. Deciding to ignore the fashion of the day, you pick up a Walkman and head home to 2012...

Over the past few months, we've been getting in touch with bands, celebrities and more to ask them to create eight-song-long mixtapes for YOU. So crack out your Walkman and enjoy...

Originating in Rome but now based in London, Turnpike Glow channel Pavement and Phoenix in their sound. Their infectious melodies and catchy lyrics have earned them support slots with the likes of The Futureheads and Cooper Temple Clause, and they're only getting bigger. Let's see what vocalist Sandro likes to listen to.

The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio
They’re my favourite band. There’s something about them that triggers pure devotion in me. I am so desperate to have another album of theirs to cling on to for dear life.

TV On The Radio - Keep Your Heart
TV On The Radio are one of those rare bands that make you want to lock yourself up in a room and start writing new tunes. Sitek’s visionary production is highly inspirational and contagious.

The Shins - Sleeping Lessons
James Mercer’s ability to consistently create timeless melodies is unmatched. This tune takes the band in a slightly different direction, a darker side to The Shins with a sublime crescendo.
[LISTEN]

Caribou - Kaili
The mere thought that there’s only one man behind this mesmerizing composition is stunning enough for me. I love his way of playing with multiple harmonies.
[LISTEN]

David Bowie - Space Oddity
It’s a musical trip that won't leave you unchanged and that will crawl under your self-conscious until you see the planet Earth with Major Tom's eyes.
[LISTEN]

Pavement - Gold Soundz
When we started out we just wanted to be like Pavement (failing miserably). They still sound fresh and inventive to this day, it’s strangely reassuring.
[LISTEN]

Phoenix - Rome
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix has been a big source of inspiration whilst recording our debut EP. My iPod had to beg me to skip to another album but I wouldn’t.
[LISTEN]

Yeasayer - I Remember
Sorry to sound banal and obvious but the truth is it breaks my heart every time I listen to it. As simple as that.
