Fugazi - Waiting Room
I know it's a bit of a cliche to go for this song with these guys, but it was the first song of theirs I heard when I was back in school listening to Radio 1 Evening Sessions and sat with my finger hovering over the record button on my cassette player so I could record songs I like the sound of. Up to that point I mostly listened to Green Day and Blink-182; Waiting Room by Fugazi as recorded on a fuzzy-sounding tape was a terning point for me.

Just LIke Honey is one of the band's best-known tracks that amalgamates post-punk, psychedelia and the dark undertones synonymous with the period. It's a complex, anthemic and sonic calling card from an album that influenced guitar music to such an extent that it is still being felt today.

The E Street Band - Born To Run
What some people don't realise it that The E Street Band had a hand in the sound of some of the most influential artists of the 70s. Aside from their predominant collaborations with The Boss, they've supplied (as individuals and as a band) the back bone to artists including Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Meat Loaf, Sting, Aretha Franklin, and even Lady smeggin' Gaga. So I present to you Born To Run, a feel-good slice of Americana written at the height of Springsteen's songwriting career. So rip the sleeves of your shirt, tie something around your forehead, crank it loud and just dance!

A band that's often overlooked, and will probably be best remembered for the That 70s Show theme tune. powered by the songwriting partnership of Alex Chilton and Chris Bell, Big Star created some of the most majestic feel-good pop music ever released. Despite their short lifespan and faltering record sales, their catalogue made a deep and lasting impression that has influenced artists such as REM and Teenage Fanclub. This is one of their mellower numbers taken from their amazing debut #1 record, and which was a live staple of Elliott Smith back in the day. It's short, sweet and heartbreaking; basically Big Star summed up in three words.
