8track: Man Without Country

Picture the scene: you've just stepped out of the Hercules Moments DeLorean and you find yourself in the 90s. MC Hammer pants and Walkmen are all the rage. Deciding to ignore the fashion of the day, you pick up a Walkman and head home to 2012...

Over the past few months, we've been getting in touch with bands, celebrities and more to ask them to create eight-song-long mixtapes for YOU. So crack out your Walkman and enjoy...

This collection of songs was chosen by the South-Wales-based duo, who take their name from having a "sense of not belonging." Their complex, shoegazey, atmospheric sound is blended with dark undertones and bitter lyrics; this creates promising and intense songs, the likes of which can be found on their debut album Foe which was released this year, or their single Migrating Clay Pigeon which is released on November 26th. Let's see what they like to listen to.

Maxsta - Pop Off
Love the beat and bass. The cut up outro is really big.

Metz - Headache
Really raw and energetic, reminds me of being 18.

Blawan - Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?
Love the vocal sample, good dark groove.

Deptford Goth - Life After Defo
Very haunting, good late night song.

Dntel - (This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan
To my knowledge this is the first collaboration between Ben Gibbard & Jimmy Tamborello, aka The Postal Service. The birth of a beautiful musical relationship in my opinion.

Portishead - Machine Gun
One of the most effective, simple beats I’ve heard. Love the haunting vocals too.

Ólafur Arnalds - Himininn Er Að Hyrnja, En Stjörnurnar Fara Þér Vel
You have to admire the simplicity of the song. It’s also very sad and moving.

Ladyhawke - Magic
It’s power-pop with attitude, executed extremely well. I love the production, the vocal melodies, and it’s a fantastic opening track to her album.

Check the band out on their website or listen to them on Soundcloud.
