Young Knives - Vision in Rags

Vision in Rags is an utterly delightful pop-rock track reminiscent of songs heard in films, when all the threads of the story have come together and everyone is bright and beaming. That’s exactly how this track made me feel: as if I was skipping along the road in my own happy ending. Strange, I know, but have a listen and I am certain that by the end of this fast-paced upbeat song, you’ll come round to a similar way of thinking.

By using an ‘old analogue rhythm generator’, Young Knives create a quick-but-steady synth drum sound, which adds to the sheer buoyancy of the song. There’s something about a synth-like drumbeat that I truly love, and it’s an excellent concept to use in Vision in Rags. On top of this, congas are used in a fun background beat, and – played by legend Lenny Castro – give an unexpected twist.

Throughout the song, the guitar is kept relatively simple – nothing too complicated thankfully, as I think it would take away from the pure liveliness of the track and have us all focussing on a guitar solo – and the vocals are sung in a somewhat high key, lifting the level of energy pretty much to breaking point. Overall, Vision in Rags is a brilliant single that takes you from hanging out in the sun to cheering up the winter days. It should not fail to impress.
