Brothers Reid - Do It Yourself

Grab your Stetson, perfect those do-si-dos and prepare for a good old fashioned hoedown… Scottish style! Effortlessly blending country, blues and folk, Brothers Reid have burst onto the Aberdeen music scene with their debut single, Do It Yourself.

And what a debut it is! Lead by the eponymous brothers – Chris and Fish – the band have crafted a dynamic and altogether engaging single. Traditional folk instruments mingle happily with electric guitars in an up-tempo, feel-good track packed full of catchy melodies and songwriting beyond their years.

First b-side, Put The Old Dog Down, is fast, furious and infectious; and, incidentally, proves to be a huge hit with the crowds at their live shows. It’s quick pace and rollicking rhythms render it virtually impossible for anyone listening not to tap their feet!

And it would be easy to feel sorry for the poor song that had to follow these two, but Brothers Reid have indeed scored a hat-trick with Time For A Change, a slower affair, but one that is equally as catchy and memorable.

With folk-rock acts like Mumford & Sons making headway into the charts, Brothers Reid have tapped into a sound that is both familiar and unique. With their debut album due out in 2011, keep an eye out for Brothers Reid’s infectious brand of foot-stomping folk.

Do It Yourself is out on the 16th of August via Fat Hippy Records
