Brave Yesterday - The Truth Is...

Brave Yesterday’s frontman is called Chris Nutter. Is there a better surname out there?! The insanity suggested by the singer’s odd moniker certainly doesn’t transcend into the quartet’s music, however, which is pop-punk of the highest order.

Title track and EP openerThe Truth Is… launches the listener in at the deep end; an onslaught of rich guitars hits you before Nutter’s vocals, not dissimilar to those of Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, kick in and the song bursts into overdrive. The rhythm section drives the song along at tremendous speed, with a welcome guitar-based breakdown just before the explosive ending.

Next up is Paper Tigers, another slab of pop-rock excellence which leads perfectly on to Upon Fists, the final track on the EP. Taking a slightly different route from the previous two songs, Upon Fists begins (relatively) quietly, before erupting into a barrage of noisy rock.

With this EP, Brave Yesterday have developed the sound heard on their eponymous debut album and have proven themselves to be a formidable force in music. With a likely slot at Glastonbury on the horizon, and a performance at Guernsey’s Liberation Rock Festival in May already on the cards, Brave Yesterday are going to rock 2010.

The Truth Is… is out now on Amazon, iTunes and all other major download site.
