The Motown 7s Rare and Unreleased Vinyl

It is not very often that new or unheard recordings are released exclusively on vinyl, but Universal Music are doing just this. They are releasing a very special collection of 14 unreleased singles from huge artists in the 60s and 70s, which are being heard for the first time after being restored from the original Hitsville master tapes.

Motown records are famous for paving the way for soul music and turning the likes of Diana Ross and the Temptations and Marvin Gaye into household names, and this exciting new release celebrates that era of music. As well as songs from well-known artists, such as The Isley Brothers’ My Love Is Your Love (Forever) and Stevie Wonder’s Just Enough to Ease the Pain (which is being released on vinyl for the first time after previously only being available to download), it also includes the world’s rarest Motown 45, Frank Wilson’s Do I Love You (Indeed I Do). Wilson's single was withdrawn after its initial 1965 release, and an original recently sold for over £25,000.

The collection was curated by DJ and broadcaster Richard Searling, who reveals the origins of some of the tracks included: "As these previously unheard Motown delicacies were being found in the vaults over the last decade, they have all made it onto CD, but for collectors like myself, Motown means vinyl, and to be able to hear and see these brilliant recordings spinning around on our turntables now will be fantastic! I've put together the selections with loving attention, aimed to capture the up tempo Northern Soul sounds, and the more delicate late 60's/early 70's crossover sound of Young America that is also so popular. As for the artists, well how could I fail, it was like being a young kid allowed in the candy store."

The only downside of this release is that it is only available on vinyl 7” records. However, considering the calibre and the era the music hails from, I feel it is only fitting and right for it to be released on vinyl - it can capture the warmth and soul of Motown that other mediums cannot. I strongly urge you to purchase a record player and get hold of this release, so you can listen to some of the artists from the label that helped shaped the way the music industry is today.
