Ellie
Goulding is a British singer/songwriter who emerged into the music industry in
2009 with singles such as Under the
Sheets and Guns and Horses. Ellie
shot to fame when she performed at the wedding reception for Prince William and
Kate Middleton in 2011, and this year she received her first UK number one single Burn after several singles reaching
number 2 in previous years. Ellie is known for her high range, breathy vocals
and takes a lot of influence from various forms of pop and electronic music.
Ellie
joined her 6 piece band on stage at the Usher Hall to a rapture of applause as
expected. She seemed almost shy as she launched into her single Figure 8 from earlier this year but this
didn’t stop a sea of fans going absolutely crazy behind me as I took photos of
her. After Ellie performed her first three tracks I was ushered (no pun intended) out of the
press pit, and quickly made my way up to my seats in the dress circle as
Ellie launched into an older single Starry
Eyed. This is where the energy really started to build up and the
atmosphere became electric. Mid-way through her set, Ellie played her cover of
Elton John's Your Song which was met
with huge emotion from the crowd as they sang the lyrics along with her. With
other highlights such as Anything Can
Happen, Explosions and Only You thrown into the mix plus some
drumming from Ellie, it’s safe to say that the show was thoroughly enjoyed by
many if not, all who attended.
Ellie’s
performance at the Usher Hall was on the 1 year anniversary since the released
of her album, Halcyon and she thanked
her Edinburgh fans on Twitter by saying “Edinburgh that was really special.
Knew it would be x”.
