Wishing
Well is the third single from Blink 182's latest album Neighbourhoods, their first recorded
music since 2003’s self-titled release.
Obviously, if you have
already heard Neighbourhoods, then Wishing Well is going to sound somewhat
familiar to you. For everyone else though, Blink 182 have continued with the
more mature direction which first appeared on their self-titled album, choosing to embrace a more layered and textured
sound compared to the older, faster-paced (and much simpler) punk
sound. Their lyrics have evolved to match, dropping some of the toilet humor and
jokes and moving towards slightly more abstract and less blatant themes.
At
the same time, though, they have managed to keep what made Blink 182 so popular: songs that are full of hooks to draw you right in, with lyrics that
resonate with people and are easily related to. Wishing Well definitely sticks to this formula and shows that while Neighbourhoods may have been the first
new album for quite a few years now, they certainly haven’t lost their touch.
Wishing Well is out November 27th
from all the usual outlets, with a European tour kicking off next summer.
